Tired of paying £300 for a frame and lenses
Our founder, after being quoted £380 for a single pair of glasses at a high-street optician, went home and spent three months researching the supply chain. The frames cost the retailer £18. The lenses, £22. The rest was retail margin and rent.
Optica was born from that frustration. We built direct relationships with frame manufacturers in Italy and Japan, set up our own lens lab, and decided to pass the savings on — not keep them.

No showrooms. No middlemen.
Every frame is designed in-house and manufactured by the same factories that supply some of the biggest names in eyewear — just without the logo premium. We keep our SKU count tight and our inventory fresh.
Our lens lab is run by qualified dispensing opticians who review every prescription order. When your frames leave us, the lenses are ground, fitted and quality-checked by a human — not an algorithm.

Our design studio is based in London. Every frame begins life as a hand sketch, moves through CAD and then through a physical prototype before we commit to production.

The idea
After being quoted £380 for a single pair of prescription glasses, our founder spent three months reverse-engineering the eyewear supply chain.
First frames
We launched with 8 frame styles and a direct partnership with an Italian frame manufacturer. 400 pairs sold in the first month.
Our own lens lab
We opened a small lab in Manchester staffed by qualified dispensing opticians. Prescription turnaround dropped from 14 days to 5.
Blue light range
Launched our blue light filtering collection after 18 months of testing. Named one of the UK's top DTC optical brands by Retail Gazette.
10,000 customers
Passed the 10,000-customer milestone with a 4.9-star average rating on Trustpilot. Expanded to 50+ frame styles.
